The Best of NYFW!

Hailed as one of the most important events in fashion, New York Fashion Week introduces us to many of the upcoming trends for future seasons. While scrolling through endless Fall 2020 collections, we are excited by the newest fads that we are sure to be seeing on the streets and down timelines come Autumn. As the dust is starting to settle on the runways of New York we are left thinking about the strongest shows that left an impact and a resurgence of beauty within fall fashion.

Christopher John Rodgers

It is undeniable that Christopher John Rodgers had the strongest collection of NYFW. His bold color pallet made this collection a hard one to forget, taping into his aesthetics Rodgers gives us whimsical exaggerated silhouettes. A vibrant play on a classic 80’s trend (power suits) mingled with billowing renaissance gowns; bridged the gap between past fashion moments and today’s modernism. His use of iridescent textiles and ability to give us feminine classic pieces in an era that is less dressy was inspirational.

LaQuan Smith

LaQuan Smith knows how to make clothing that make women feel sexy! I just know when wearing one of his pieces you are going to feel unstoppable and that is no exception with his recent collection. Even his simple silhouettes like a halter mini dress had a personality of its own when paired with those oh so fly puffer knee high boots. Playing with puffy sleeves, sheer mesh, embellishments, vinyl, and leather there are so many components to this line, but everything comes together in true edgy girl fashion.

Area

I love how the designers of Area really take it there; beyond clothing their pieces look more like works of art. Creativity is what pushed this collection to be one of the most talked about presentation of New York Fashion Week. Sure you won’t find these garments in the everyday girl’s closet, but shows like Area is what keeps fashion week exciting. A true testament of when art meets craftsmanship. Area’s use of dripping crystals and eye gouging shoulder pads is what keeps us talking and on the lookout for their next collection.

Prabal Gurung

Prabal is one of my favorite designers simply because he knows how to dress women; his garments are timeless as they are glamorous. He dives into this collection with a heavy 70’s reference in suiting and satin evening gowns. Prabal has us covered for our glamorous nights out or days when we need a little bit of drama. There is detail in each garment from hip cut-outs, unbuttoned shoulder peek-a-boos, and loofa like sleeves making each piece memorable all on their own.

Dion Lee

Dion Lee’s collection had a lot of bells and whistles from the collar bone showing blazer dress, tie-dye skirts, corset blazers, and the infusion of jewelry into garments. All of these things came together to offer a collection that had a strong point of view with major closet appeal. I want all the above pieces TODAY.

Brandon Maxwell

What I love most about this collection is its wearability. These simple silhouettes came to life with luxe fabrics and beautiful accessories like the tortoiseshell cowboy boots and cross body bag. Maxwell gave the fashion girls our dream wardrobe with sheer fabrics, high slits, and good chunky knit options; and did it all with such ease. This is a prime example of creating beautiful clothing that is not overly complicated.
