New Year Prep: Becoming the Best Version of Yourself

Happy December, it’s literally the best time of the year. For us, the final month of the year is dedicated to reflection, rest, and reprogramming ahead of the New Year. Yes- reprogram. No, not in the “new year new me'' cliche but the reboot, rewiring, and planning that inspires us to put our best foot forward. We’re all about entering all things new, rather year, season, job, etc. with new perspectives. We begin to reflect on what went right, what went wrong, what habits we want to continue, and which ones need to end. Understand, to come to this place of deep reflection and leaving with an actionable plan, takes work and dedication. If you are dedicated to meeting the best version of yourself, here are a few tools that may help.

Fasting

I love starting my New Year off with a spiritual fast. It allows me to meet myself and reconnect with God and hear his voice clearly. Fasting is a must for my self-care. I fast not only from food but also from social media, tv, and anything else that may be monopolizing my attention and time. During my fast, I focus on spending time with God through prayer, worship, & studying His word. To fast effectively you should mostly focus on spending time in God’s presence- get refilled. Then listen to what he has to say. Fasting is a way to position yourself to move in the direction of the best version of you-God’s version.

Alone time

Spending time alone gives me time to decompress and be still. Turning the focus completely inward and self-dialoguing allows me to express where I am mentally and emotionally. I find so much peace in the silence that comes from solitary, it allows me to show up better for those around me when it's time to link up.

Digital Detox

Screen time is draining. I feel like we live so much of our lives via screens these days. I enjoy taking a step back and going outside to “touch grass'' lol. Getting away from the constant news and noise allows me to not get too consumed in things I can't change. It encourages me to be more present in my own life, finding inspiration in what's in front of me. Life is beautiful offline. For the New Year my goal is to pick up the phone less: take more walks, spend more time with my friends and family, reading more. All the things.

Community closeness

Yes to community! I love my tribe, I was blessed to be surrounded by the most amazing people. I feel closer to myself when I’m surrounded by the people that God has placed in my life. Listening and learning from others is so inspiring, hearing different perspectives empowers me to show up for someone other than me.

Journaling

I recently began journaling consistently again and when I say I am meeting myself in these pages! Typically I internalize things in my head, but writing everything on paper has allowed me to work through my feelings more effectively. I am a journal prompt girl so I enjoy pulling prompts from whatever bible devotional I'm reading that week.

Declutter-Organize-Clean

Self explanatory, just do it. You will feel so much better working and living in a clean organized space.

We hope this post has inspired you to begin thinking about how you plan to grow into the New Year. Let us know in the comments how you are planning to step into the 2023 as the best version of yourself.
