The Reason I Can't Get Behind The 10 Step Skincare Routine Craze
Much like fashion, skincare has trends too and the trend that has been polarizing the skincare industry for the past year is undoubtedly the 10 step skincare routine. Stemming from Korean skincare this routine includes:
Oil cleanser
Foam/cream cleanser
Toner
Essence
Emulsion
Ampoule/Serum
Sheet Mask
Eye Cream
Moisturizer
Sunscreen
Though many beauty gurus have stamped this routine as tried and true I refuse to partake for a few reasons. Reason one. Capitalism, how many articles am I going to read telling me I need to buy something? Skincare is not cheap. I can barely pick up my beloved Pumpkin Enzyme Mask by Peter Thomas Roth without cringing at the $60 price tag. I just can't justify going broke in the name of self-care and glass skin. Second, time; between working overtime most weekdays and trying to be social I just don't have the extra 15 minutes carved out for 10 steps of anything. Overall I like to keep it simple while still targeting what most concerns me about my skin. My go-to skincare regimen consists of; Cleanser, exfoliating, moisturizers and a little chemical peel and usually not all on the same night. I'll admit, I use to be super committed to my skincare routine but I’m at a time in my life where I prefer a simpler approach. My skin really hasn't suffered from it (much), luckily. Don't get me wrong, I still take off my makeup every night, but instead of my usual 4-5 steps my skincare is looking more like 2; cleanse then moisturize. I believe skincare is different for everybody, maybe 10 steps work for you or maybe you're a soap and water type of girl ( I envy y'all), either way, I say listen to YOUR skin.
